Wine Tasting — A success

Our 3rd Wine Tasting was a great success!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your contribution.  From board members who worked their day job and then stayed up until all hours preparing, to those who made auction items; from those working behind the scenes to those manning the doors; from decorating to grocery shopping,  from inviting to attending, and to our Sommelier, Ericia Los, who somehow managed to be all of those things, we thank you.  We thank you from our candidates, from Our Special Needs, and personally.  This is the kind of world we want to live in.  Everyone working together for a common cause.  YOU created that.  Very sincerely, Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you.

Ford is collaborating with the Autism Alliance of Michigan

Raj Nair, Executive V.P. & Chief Technical Officer Product Development Announces that Ford is collaborating with the Autism Alliance of Michigan on a pilot program that will provide individuals who have autism with an opportunity to gain work experience in Ford’s Product Development organization beginning June 1, 2016.

Autism is a term used for a group of developmental disorders which includes a wide range of symptoms, skills, and levels of disability. Individuals with autism often have characteristics which include difficulty communicating and interacting with others, repetitive behaviors, as well as very focused interests or activities. Research suggests that 90 percent of individuals with autism are unemployed and 50 percent of them are highly functioning.

The roles that will be performed during Ford’s pilot program support our PD Vehicle Evaluation and Verification efforts. We will evaluate the pilot for potential continuation and expansion of the program on a more permanent basis both in other areas of PD and other areas of the Company. This is a win-win program: the participant gets substantial work experience and an opportunity for future employment at the Company, and we get essential work done to support our PD efforts.

This is a cause that is personally important to my family and affects many other families in our community. Please join me in supporting this initiative and help bring awareness to this program as we work to make Ford a great place to work for everyone.
Employees interested in learning more about autism and resources available for families touched by autism may consider the resources available at non-profit organizations such as the Autism Alliance of Michigan:

Wondering what to do? Want some excitement?

Not to promote one movie theater over another, but there is one that is promoting Autism friendly movies every now and then. A little bit ago, it was “Jungle Book” (Really enjoyed it) and now it is Captain America: Civil War. Here is what I got in my email…

Come enjoy Captain America Civil War in an Autism friendly setting on May 7th at 10:30am at our Novi, Woodhaven & Rochester Hills locations.

This new, Autism and Special Needs friendly program at Emagine is a partnership with Centria Autism to screen movies with sensory lighting, a bring your own snack policy, and gives guests the opportunity to get up to sing and dance. To learn more, please visit our Events page.

Hey – here is a new person you can help! Look at this guy!!!

Garrett Carr
Meet our newest candidate, Garrett….Garrett is a super fun and sweet little boy who happens to have Athetoid Cerebral Palsy. He is growing and thriving, but the bigger he gets the harder it becomes for his parents to lift, travel, and move him around in this world. You can help. Check out his story and make a tax-deductible donation here.

Garrett also has had seizures which are under control now, he is non verbal and uses a communication device and is in a wheelchair. He loves to play baseball and ride horses. Garrett has taught his mom and dad more patience and love than they could have ever imagined…he truly makes our lives richer! But as you can imagine with not being able to walk or talk there will always be a lot of equipment needed to help Garrett achieve a better way of life…this equipment is very expensive and sometimes insurance doesn’t cover things. So we are humbling ourselves and asking for a bit of help on some items that Garrett really needs in the near future. Thank you to all who graciously donate to help us.
